Popping up randomly
Funny the things that come up when you're away from the weebs for a while. To wit:
ETA: I think I'm a little sleep-deprived. I went to put in a link to one of the things I've got in the list above, and the link I put in was
<a href="The Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which provides import tariff preferences to developing countries, defines "internationally recognized labor rights" as including freedom of association; the right to organize and bargain collectively; the prohibition against forced labor, child labor under a certain age... and minimum acceptable employment conditions...">
...which, oddly enough, did not link to a scene with a lovely blow job. So if I've missed or messed up something crucial in this post, can y'all let me know?
- There has been Glee!! And I almost missed it!!!! OMGWTFBBQ!!eleven!!
::ahem:: It's called Three Indecent Acts, bymaple_mahogany, and it's adorable.
Quote: Now, you know I love Hermione and I would never betray her, yeah? But I can think of at least three indecent acts that I could get it up for with that girl. - And there has been H/D! Actually, there has been lots of H/D, and I had a list of fics I wanted to rec and now I don't. Help?
I do have a link to one of them:fourth_rose's Not In the Hands of Boys, chapter 21!
BTW, um. Cliffie alert. But: ohsogood! - There has been a plotbunny that I'm currently batting away because seriously, this is the wrong time for it, but it keeps popping up again. We'll see how it does when I'm done my current round of fic and RL obligations. It's based around a very old entry over at
road_ahead, Goodbye, my son.
- "I'm with Percy!" Fred called back at George as he hurried after their older brother.
"I'm coming with you," George said, running up behind them.
"No! Stay with Lee," Fred said. "Guard the corridor in case-"
"You guard the corridor!"
"Come on, Percy's just come off a desk job, he needs back-up-"
"Don't do this again, you arse," George said angrily. "I can fight as well as you can whether I'm missing an ear or not! Don't make another stupid excuse to go to the more dangerous-"
"Think I'm leaving you where it's safe? Did you see those bloody giants trying to get through?"
"Bollocks!"
There was a shout and a crashing sound from around the corner. "Bloody hell, Percy's going to get himself killed and Mum'll never forgive me," Fred muttered and they both started to run towards him, then stopped at the sound of Lee's voice.
"Erm, a little help here!" Lee was saying nervously, and Fred took the opportunity to shove George in Lee's direction and bolt off after Percy. George growled in annoyance and sprinted back towards Lee. - Got my
weasley_fest assignment and it's a good thing I've got till June, cause I am drawing a total and absolute blank here.
What's the protocol for when you haven't put something on your list of squicks, but when you get your assignment, you wish you had? And what if it's not so much a squick as a "Um... sure, whatever floats your boat, but gosh, that sounds as sexy and intriguing to me as collecting fridge magnets"? Because it's not a squick. There's nothing wrong with it. I'm not turned off. I just don't get the attraction, in any way at all. And trying to figure out how to write it is leaving me staring at a big old blank screen with the cursor blinking mockingly at me.
I want to do this well. But I can't figure out how to do it at all. - I'm sure everyone and their (literate) dog has heard this one by now, but in case you haven't: Deathly Hallows will be two movies, not one. It's all too far away for me to have a definite opinion on it. Expect I'll be pleased once I think about it, as my opinions on the books and movies tend to be pretty uncritical. I reserve my discriminating mind for fics; probably 'cause I expect more out of them ;)
- My
hd_worldcup fic is almost done!! ::bounce::
- Got a huge paper due on Monday, which is decidedly not almost done ::thud::

Oooh - now that sounds desperately intriguing! If you want to share and ponder, I'm dying to know what it is!

You have no idea how loud I squeed when I saw it :D :D :D

Um, I probably can't discuss it on lj 'cause it's anonymous and I don't know if anybody else has that particular request, but if you want to know I can either e-mail or I can anonypost onto your lj or something :)
And now it sounds so incredibly mysterious and naughty... and it's really not. It's not a bad kink at all, I completely get it intellectually, it just does nothing for me emotionally. It's like marshmallows; I have nothing against them. Lots of people like them. Me? Meh.

In most cases I try to focus on the other aspects of the prompt or if they are like "PLZ INCLUDE THIS" then I do some research and look for other fics with that element so that I have sort of a base point.
If it really bothers you or you just don't feel up to the challenge I would contact the mod:)
I had a plot bunny for a Weasley fic too! But I must refrain until I finish like my 2939 (hyperbole) assignments! I don't write/read that much Weasley fic so it was weird when I got it.

Meep! I have trodden on the toes of a Misunderstood Art!

Yeah, that's probably a good starting point.

It's a new thing for me. I was formerly 95% H/D; now it's more like 75%. Weasleysfics have taken up the balance. They're insidious ;)

Whaat?! Two movies for Deathly Hallows - I had not heard. Depends on how they're thinking about executing it: with two movies, they'll at least have the change to do them really well, have all the details included and not chop half of the things. But if they're planning on like releasing them with a year's time of each other, is not cool at all (although then us fans would be able to drag the inevitable for a little longer, that it's all coming to an end:).

Yay!! I wasn't the last to know! for once
But if they're planning on like releasing them with a year's time of each other
I think the plan is six months apart. Don't know where I heard that though.

Yeah. Happened to me.
If it is a squick, then contact the mods whether it would be okay to leave it out.
If it's just something you're indifferent to but the requestor wishes for it strongly then you can attempt to write it. I have but I don't think I succeeded. Since then, I thought of a new trick: (actually two) 1) to mix it with something that does turn you on, and channel that into this thing that doesn't. 2) imagine you and your requestor are two of your characters: the person whose POV you write (i.e. you) isn't turned on by it, but his/her partner (your requestor) is. So he/she tries to accomodate the partner and gets something in return from the partner that turns them on. That has the chance of actually working in reality too, right?

Oh cool, I'm not the only one then! Yay!
Um, I mean, that's too bad, I'm sorry ;)

Oooh! Those both have incredible possibilities, you know.
And the plotbunnies are off!!
Um, OK, notsomuch because I have a twenty page paper of Boring Doom breathing down my neck, but the plotbunnies are at least stirring now, instead of looking at me pathetically before lying down for a nap.

Run? Huahuauha... well, that's annoying. I hope this person gave you another requests that you can concentrate on and leave the squick-but-not-really thing as a minor element in the story. That's what I would try to do if I were you.
Fred and George are the only Weasleys I really love (er, but not as a couple) and I find it so hard to read fics with DH-spoilers about them. Fred's death is still a sore spot for me.
Ps: is it too bad that now I want to read your GSP paper/research? XD

OMG I KNOW!!! *&%$%*)!!

Um, not really. But I've got a few really good ideas now - I love my flist! - so it's conceivable I may be able to pull this off.
Fred and George are the only Weasleys I really love (er, but not as a couple)
Yeah I was very careful to put that in my list of squicks for both reading and writing. Not to offend any twincesters out there, but I just, um, no.

Me too. Mind you it's resulted in a lot of very cool fics, but damn. That was the worst of the DH deaths for me.
My little guy came into the study right after reading it and said, his eyes a little red, "I think Fred's death will be my least favourite part of this book." ::pause:: "Unless Lupin dies."
Ps: is it too bad that now I want to read your GSP paper/research? XD
LOL considering the quality of the writing right now, yes, it is. This is not pretty, not at all. ::sigh::

Over a week later, hello back!

LOL! Well, apology accepted, though I can't think of anything you owe me an apology for so maybe you're thinking of somebody else :D :D

How are you? How's life and home and people?
