  • I can, occasionally, read (and like) stuff I normally have little interest in, like this R/H fic I found featuring cross-dressing, which normally doesn't do much for me other than make me chuckle.

    Submission, by Treacle Tart.
Summary: Ron and Harry prepare for a mission and must battle terrible fashion sense.
    Excerpt:
"Dress up? You played dress up... rather than deal with your brothers?"

"You have met Fred and George, right?"

    Right. "But dress up?"

Ron narrowed his eyes. "When I was six they had me drink a concoction that made all my hair fall out."

    "It obviously grew back-"

    "Purple. It grew back purple."

    "You fixed it."

"All my hair fell out Harry, and it all grew back purple. I had to sit in St. Mungos for three weeks while dozens of Medi-witches and wizards examined every square inch of body trying to find a cure. The first 'cure' turned all my hair green. The second got the coloring right, but it was my skin that turned red... my hair stayed green. I looked like a strawberry covered in mold. The sixth covered me in polka dots while the twelfth gave me stripes. I think you can see why I might not have minded wearing Mum's hat and shoes on occasion while playing with Ginny. I never had to worry about my health, or my sanity, or my coloring... and I always matched. I'm rather good at accessorizing."
    ---

Read it. It's hilarious. And if you're into cross-dressing, I get the feeling it might also be pretty hot. Unfortuntely my judgment on that aspect of the fic should be given the same weight as my opinion on the relative Britishness of any given fic. What with me being Canadian and all.

  • Then there's this other fic, which features a pairing that's not only a bit unusual, but involves a (former) teacher/student, which I normally have zero interest in and am actually kind of repelled by. [Never end a sentence with a preposition.][But propositions are OK.] Somehow I thought it was H/D - probably because I'm a little slow on the uptake, as H/D was not mentioned anywhere in the rec or summary. I started to clue in that there would be no H/D action around the middle of the story, as Harry remained puzzlingly and relentlessly het, but by then I'd been drawn in too far by the story itself to back out. And I'm glad I didn't.

Excerpt: Severus knew about the marks, every last one of them. Though he never trusted Draco enough to say the words, "Voldemort's a great big git and I went off him a while back and never really came back around," he cared about Draco enough to say before things went too far, "Miss Bulstrode was headed toward an Advanced Potions Degree at my recommendation. She'll be able to provide for you."

The Fields of St. Herve by Arsenic.

BTW, other than the line above, it's not actually all that funny. Just lovely and awkward and touching and sad and thoughtful and joyful all at once.

  • BTW, the OOC in the subject line refers to me being OOC, not the characters in the fics being OOC.

And the former teacher in the second story is not Snape. He's very much dead.

  • Ah yes, the advice. I wrote this in another discussion group, then realized that it was a bit of wisdom that needed to be more widely shared.

    (Cut & Paste)
OK, so, having never written a rimming scene, rimmed or been rimmed (probly TMI), I just have one wee little bit of advice, which I normally don't give but this is just too important to let it go.

Please don't forget which body part you're writing about.

I used to be too icked to read rimming, but as it's everywhere these days, I've gotten over myself wrt that particular activity. And there are some incredibly hot scenes that feature it. But. If, in the middle of a scene, the rimmee feels such love for the rimmer that their quivering, overwhelmed [body part euphemism] melts and "expresses its delight with a heartfelt, grateful sigh," I'm here to assure you that all arousal will come to a grinding and horrified halt.
