It pisses me off as well. I've run out of patience and say, "I write in British English. American-based English is not the only type to exist, nor was it the first."
If I was even more impolite, I'd say, "Fuck you. Read more and then come back to me when you're ready to get your head out your ass about shit that isn't even wrong."
