  • Does anybody know if [livejournal.com profile] the_birdnest has her stories archived somewhere? I had links to her lj and fic journal, but now they've both disappeared and I got all wibbly the other day when I realized the links were gone.

She wrote "Could You Be A Little Less", didn't she? The one where all the female HP characters were subtly dissed? I'm devastated to have lost that one.

  • The other day I got a lovely review for Bond, that ended with

It was just at the end. You did a Vorbiza... hints that 'slytherins are better' were screaming at me. Either lots of people noticed and didn't comment or not many did because they all actually LIKED Vorbiza and was glad that the 'good side' got an implied thrashing. I personally found that without the continuous apologies about how 'we don't understand all of the hardship that you've been through, we're sorry waah' towards Green and lots of swear words and barely-veiled insults towards Red, I might've found the ending few chapters a lot more satisfying.

But, trying not to sound too patronizing here, apart from all that, it was fantastic, and I look forward to reading your other stories. :D

::blink blink:: I... don't know what to make of it. The rest of the review was really very positive, and I'm sure the reviewer was being constructive at the end, and I do say very clearly in all my fics that I welcome concrit. It's just that I'm unclear on what "doing a Vorbiza" means. And I really didn't think I'd bashed Gryffindor while exalting Slytherin. I don't even like Slytherin. Though maybe I was trying so hard not to let my dislike show that I went too far. Oh well.

  • Random neato tidbit: one of the lawyers where I work is a published romance author. I asked her about her books and she said she had only published two; the rest was all hobby-writing, including fanfic. Turns out she had a "kind of embarrassing, um, complete addiction to Buffy-slash."

    I fandom. So, so much.

  • Also, does anyone know the title of an HP fic, which I believe was never finished, where the Sorting Hat gets drunk (or possibly gets fiddled with by the Weasley twins) and Sorts everyone wrong in Harry's year? I think Harry ends up in Hufflepuff, Hermione and (I think) Neville in Slytherin, Ron and Pansy in Ravenclaw, Goyle in Gryffindor, and I am mortified to realize I have no idea where Draco ends up. From what I vaguely remember, it was very good; the characters were still essentially the same, but since they believed they were supposed to be Hufflepuffs/Ravenclaw/etc, they acted like they were. IIRC, intellectual Ron was particularly intriguing.

    Anyone?

Vorabiza, I think

I'm not sure if that's what your commenter meant, but it might be a reference to Vorabiza's fic "Secrets" at Skyehawke. I don't know how to type something then hide it under a Spoiler warning, so I'm not going to expand on the fic, but it definitely shows a soft spot for Slytherins, at least as far as giving them a chance at redemption goes.

While we're discussing Bond, allow me to say it again: *screeches* I LOVE Bond! I was a diehard Harry/Ron shipper and then I tried very reluctantly to read Harry/Draco just to see what all the hype was about Bond was the second Draco/Harry fic I read and it is my number-one favorite so far. I LOVE it! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! *covers you and your fics in awesomesauce*

Oh! I think I read that one! Wasn't that the one where Harry was hiding Draco and his family at the Dursleys, and there was a baby in there somewhere, and... about sixty chapters?

Damn. Can't remember if it was gratingly pro-Slytherin or not. ::sigh::

I dunno, my take on it is, they may not be my favourite type of people, but by canon they're about 25% of British wizardry, so maybe letting them be vaguely human and redemptionable is no bad thing ;)

Thanks :D :D :D

Me too!

And ::blush:: at all the nice stuff you said. I'm still tickled pink that people liked it when it first came out, let alone still remember it years later :D :D :D
