Quick request: anybody up for betaing an Ember to Ember DVD Extra?

December is like a huge all-you-can-read buffet of excellent fics at dozens of fests, not just hd_holidays. I haven't read the vast majority of them; anybody who can rec more to me will probably get squeed at rather annoyingly. Sorry in advance ;)

• Plate Removal, by solstice_muse, in bestmates_xmas
  Pairing/Characters: Harry/Ron
  Summary: She can remember when somebody’s working or ill or at a friend’s wedding that weekend but she’ll always forget that Hermione won’t be sitting beside me for dinner...Years of pain and regret expressed in plate removal.
  Rec: Way to take a simple gesture and run with it :) :) :)
  Excerpt: Who takes new mums aside while their newborn is getting cleaned up and whispers into their ear how to sigh like that? It's soul crushing, I tell you.

  Pairing/Characters: Harry/Ron
  Summary: Fred's will contains an unexpected bequest, and Harry has to figure out how to deal with it.

  Excerpt: The one advantage of having been on the run from Voldemort and literally fighting for his life, thought Harry, was that he'd had very little time for worrying about mundane things such as Quidditch league standings, romance, and what his life would be like without the specter of evil hanging over his head.

  Pairing/Characters: Harry/Ron
  Summary: Harry knows he should probably be more bothered by the fact that people think they’re gay, but he’s just... not. Ron doesn’t seem to mind, either. Not that they’ve ever actually talked about it.
  Rec: This was actually not the fic I was thinking of when I remembered "Harry's Beard." The fic I was thinking of was a lot funnier, and fluffier, and I'd love to find it again.
  This one, though... this one just makes you go aaawwwww... and ::sniffle::... and aaaaawwww all over again :D :D :D
  Excerpt: Harry’s idly pushing the remains of his supper around his plate when a slice of red pepper slides into just the right spot, and suddenly he’s got the spitting image of two dragons, furiously copulating.
  
  He suppresses a grin and wishes he could take a picture, because it’s an honest to god tragedy that Ron isn’t here to see it.
  
  
• 59 Days, for jadzialove, in hp_yule_balls
  Pairing/Characters: Harry/Ron
  Summary: It's been fifty-nine days, and they're still not talking about it.
  Rec: This is just plain hot. And pushes all my buttons for awkward-boys-fumbling-awkwardly-about.
  Excerpt: They’ve been at this for two months. Almost. Fifty-nine days, which would be two months if one of those months had been February, so it's close enough, especially since Harry is not actually keeping track. Obviously.

  Pairing/Characters: Harry/Ron, but could be read as simple friendship.
  Summary: A series of drabbles about our boys and what they are to each other, from the beginning...
  Rec: Squeeeee... and more than a few sniffles on the way.
  Excerpt: He learns at an early age that to see the particular shine of his mother’s eye, the prideful beam in his father’s smile, he must be extraordinary in a house full of wonders and voices trying to be heard.

  Pairing/Characters: George/Lee, Fred
  Summary: It's about wanting, laughing, loving, fighting and losing. Above all, it's about friendship.
  Rec: She's all done, but there's going to be an Epilogue and the thought makes me jiggle up and down like an idiot whenever I think of it :D :D :D
  Excerpt: "OI, Jordan!" Fred's voice stopped Lee's pensive moment on the common room couch. "Quit staring at George's arse and grab your broom, we're going flying." Right. Maybe he hadn't been that subtle.
  
  "Well, look at it," he answered, glad that he didn't blush easily. "Did you know it's freckled?"
  
  "I've heard about it." Fred sighed and shook his head. "Don't tell the girls about his haemorrhoids, though. He's a bit embarrassed."

And this last one wasn't part of a fest, that I can tell, and it's not new. Still. Whoa.

Rec: Heartwrenching, and totally gorgeous. I can't... ::shaking head:: This is one of those fics that stays with you a long, long time.
