Recs and crack and a snippet and a rant

No Ember to Ember update, alas. Working on it. Going slowly. But! I have recs!
- Vale Sanare, by Anonymous, H/D.
Summary: Draco's world gains a new component, just when he thought he'd sorted everything out.
Rec: OMG I love, love, love this story. EWE, war damage and coping, and a distinct lack of sentimentality. And! Ginnyhate that isn't! - Not in the Hands of Boys, by
fourth_rose,H/D, chapter 18.
Rec: ...and I just can't get over how loudly I squeal whenever this updates. - Coming Clean, TL/JP.
Summary: Teddy thinks it's time that James fesses up to his parents, but it might take a bit of persuasion on his part.
Rec: Guh. Is all I can say. Also: NWS. - The Road Ahead
Summary: A post-DH RPG of massive proportions, with multiple postings every day. You don't - and probably shouldn't - follow every single one, because they can sometimes update insanely slowly. But it's just so freaking neat.
Rec: I'm currently mostly following the Trio, Percy, George and Lee. Which is what originally brought me to it, becausemaple_mahogany mentioned that there was lovely lovely Glee. And oh my yes, there certainly is.
I'm actually somewhat miffed at poormaple_mahogany, who no doubt had no idea how completely sucked in some people could get. Apparently she's in it mostly for the Glee. ::sobs:: I have no such self-control.
Here's two entries, from the first few days of The Road Ahead. Both are complete. - Preparations, Ginny Weasley, Molly Weasley, The Burrow
Summary: Fred did still need them, and Ginny was determined to be there for him.
Rec: Yeah can't add to it. - So much left to say, Lee Jordan, Alleyway behind WWW
Summary: Lee says goodbye to a friend.
Rec: It's... kind of heartbreaking, with beautiful images of Lee's history with the twins, eg George and Fred looking terrified. A breakfast table full of smirking Gryffindors. A smoking red envelope.
And now for some crack... Patronus, H/R, by shocfix.
Summary: Beware morphing Patroni :)
Rec: ROFLMAO!!
Ack, that wasn't the fic I was going to rec. Although it is hysterical, but I'd already recced it before.
This is the one I meant to link to:
A Gnome's Eye View, H/R, by shocfix.
Summary: wild sex in front of the Xmas tree from the POV of the stupefied gnome on top of the tree.
Rec: He looked a little scared of the matching Gingers – everyone does, when they get really loud - but he has one of his very own, that he likes best.- 9 Ways Draco Malfoy Never Went Insane (Holy Ministry Crack, Batman!), by
furiosity.
Summary: Meet Draco, twenty-three years old. Fed up with life and the way things are going, he decides to go insane in a variety of ways. (You know what, Potter? I don't like your attitude...)
Rec: Another ROFLMAO. - Not a rec, but a rant.
I am very, very sad. OOP DVD came out December 11 in Canada, but did I get it? No, because my kids ordered it from Amazon for me as my birthday present. Shh! Don't tell! It's a secret!! It'll get here December 20!
December 20 came and went, birthday came and went, and no DVD - I did get a birthday present, though; they just switched my Christmas present to two days earlier.
Christmas came and went and no DVD. Tomorrow is Friday and there's no post on Saturdays and if my freaking DVD is not here I will be most put out. I may shake my little fist and stomp my little feet at Amazon. And maybe even stick my tongue out at Future Shop, which has been taunting me with huge posters and shiny stacks of the thing since December 11. - And a snippet.
I've got a Fic That Will Probably Never See the Light of Day slowly growing on my hard drive. It's a George-centric genfic, no pairings, though due to some people's influence George/Lee keeps trying to happen. I had something like this going in my previous fandom, over 100 pages of bits and pieces of a fic that never went anywhere, and I never posted it and now I'm kinda sad I didn't because some of the pieces weren't so bad. So I'll probably be posting random snippets of this fic here. So that even if it does die a lonely death, at least bits of it will have seen the light.
... Recordame, and then it starts recording you onto the scroll, just like the accounting ones do. I'm doing mine first, yeah? Yeah so listen, you can name a son after me, but if you name one of your daughters Frederica I'll come back from the grave and kick you. And I'm not naming mine Georgina if you snuff it.
What, you'd name your daughter Fred? Merlin you're drunk.
Am not, I just took Sober-up. Wills aren't binding if you're pissed, y'know. That other glass is for you when it's your turn.
Seriously though, c'n you imagine, your daughter gets to Hogwarts and McGonagall reads out "Freddie Weasley" and says "Is that short for 'Frederica'" and she says "No, it's Fred. Fred Weas-"
Fred Brunhilda Weasley? Oi! Show some respect for the dead, wanker!
Bugger, it's been recording me this whole time. I'll go back and get rid of this shite later. Now shut up, let's get this over with.
All right, if I die, George gets everything, everybody else can come pick three things out of the shop, no price limit. Yeah, you heard right, Ron. If we've both kicked, and nobody thinks they can run the shop, either donate it to Zonko 'cause he can surely use the ideas, or sell it off and donate half the proceeds to - no, come on, mate, not the Squid.
Because they'll have to do it if I say it officially. A laugh's a laugh but we are talking Galleons here.
Donate to an orphanage. Not the Squid. And Harry gets to decide which orphanage, 'cause he's the orphan who gave us our start. Oops. Well, hopefully if Mum didn't know about that yet, she won't mind finding out like this. All right, what else?
Right, the funeral, well this is a bucket of cheer. Why'd we decide to do this again?
Yeah, I know, not your idea, you're going to live forever. Well the funeral, I dunno, have a party or something, don't go all depressing on me. And if anybody calls me Frederick in a eulogy, I'll haunt them. Also, no wearing black. Fuchsia is a lovely colour, goes smashingly with ginger, and if anybody's hung over it'll be especially painful and serve as a lesson on the dangers of overindulgin- oi! That hurt, you arse!
And that's it, Fred Weasley, sound mind and body, and all that.
George reached out to roll the parchment back up, and gave a start as Fred's voice began again.
No, it's not over, George, I'm just doing this part without you here to take the mickey out of me.
Any of my family that's still around, I'm glad you made it. I'll miss making your lives a little more interesting, and I'm sorry I won't get to see the next generation and tell them embarrassing stories from all your childhoods. Dunno what kind of dad I would've been, but I think I would've made a decent uncle. Might've learned how to pull roses out of my arse at parties, even.
Mum and Dad, thanks. We weren't the most grateful sorts, but I have to say you surviving to our adulthood without drowning either of us makes you pretty remarkable parents, even if you hadn't raised another five kids as well. Love you both.
George, if you're still alive and I'm not, I'm really sorry, mate. But I'm glad one of us made it through and I'm glad it was you, 'cause I think you'll do the surviving twin thing a lot better than me. Ask Lee about that sometime. Erm, preferably when you're both piss-drunk. And tell Lee to look out for you, all right?
I love you, Georgie. Make 'em all laugh again, all right? For me. And for you.
Cheers.
The parchment hung in the air before them all, silent, then George reached for it and rolled it up again. - I've got more to post - more H/Rs, and Arctic Fox, but it's 2:00 and good girls should be in bed. Asleep. And probably so should I.

Date: 2007-12-28 04:48 pm (UTC)Even though the Twins in canon make me nuts, (Oh, I'd hate to be around them in RL!) the thought of one dying is heartbreaking. It's like half a person. So, good job bringing that out.

Even though the Twins in canon make me nuts, (Oh, I'd hate to be around them in RL!)
OMG yeah, me too! I tend to do that, though - get really attached to characters who would just drive me up the wall if they were real people. I think I'd probably avoid a real set of Weasley-like twins like the plague. And probably club a real Draco over the head on a daily basis if I were unfortunate enough to have to deal with him.
the thought of one dying is heartbreaking. It's like half a person.
Yeah. I was really hoping Rowling wouldn't do that, but I understand why she did and it was pretty powerful. Just... ouch.
My little guy came close to tears reading that part. What's worse is he came into the study after reading it and said, "I think Fred dying is going to be my least favourite part of this book. ::pause:: Unless Lupin dies."

Date: 2007-12-28 11:43 pm (UTC)I play Lucius and Ollivander, but this season has been kicking my butt with work and stuff. I have FOUR commissions sitting here that I'm supposed to be working on, and only one of them is even remotely close to done.
*sigh*
I hope things get better.

Really? ::squeeee!!!::
I have FOUR commissions sitting here that I'm supposed to be working on, and only one of them is even remotely close to done.
Yowch. On the one hand, it must be nice to have steady work, but OTOH, whoa. Way too much of a good thing?

Date: 2007-12-30 03:10 am (UTC)Really? ::checks:: Doh! Yes I did! Oh well.
Also, I'm not quite sure whether to squee or be sniffly about that little George snippet you've got there.
Heh - thanks :)
It's so sweet! And I don't know why, but short ending sentences really get it out of me.
At the end of the will?
Oh, I feel all shivery inside! Though, that could be because of the air-conditioning.
LOL! And also: air conditioning in December. ::sigh:: And here I'm freezing my butt off with two sweaters and a thick pair of socks.

(although I would totally and completely name my girl Fred. :D)
Ah, but would you name her Fred Brunhilda?
And also! Lee/George? So not a bad thing!
Oh, not at all! It's a marvelous thing. But a marvelous thing that would totally derail where I wanted the post-DH fic to go.
And yet it keeps trying to muscle in. I think it's stronger than I am ;)
