Weasleyfest, Week One
Jul. 6th, 2008 12:44 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Thought I'd be linking to every post the way I did for
hd_worldcup, but then I remembered something: there's a lot of Weasleys. Which means a lot of characters. And a hell of a lot of possible pairings/themes/squicks. Also: anonymity is not exactly the life-or-death thing it was for
hd_worldcup. Hence, while
weasley_festmod has made an awesome post summary of the first week's posts, I'll only put up the ones I liked the most. Which is only the ones that struck my fancy; I'm sure a lot of the other stories/art are great, but just not my thing, yk?
It's weird to be writing again. Nothing big, as I think I'm currently all bigged-out, but I'm touching up little things here and there and even starting on a couple of silly one-shots.
And is it wrong that one of the one-shots got started by a poem by Tom Lehrer?
O woman,
When I see your wild shock of hair
Cascading over the pillow,
And I hear the soft seesaw hum
Of your sleeping,
I wonder
Who you really are,
And who I really am,
And... what happened last night after I blacked out?

- The Inevitable Hour - Quite simply; love, in a time of war. Fred/Angelina, (George) - NC-17, a fic for
reallycorking.
Rec: Hands-down my favourite story of the week. Just gut-wrenchingly beautiful and painful. Am feeling insanely jealous and wishing I had written it. So, so much.
Excerpt: "I don't know where he is," George said, managing to sound both calm and lost at the same time. "And it's very dangerous."
They sat together, drinking slowly without talking, until Fred arrived home at last and mocked them good-naturedly for fretting over him. His smile never reached his eyes, and his hand trembled slightly as he poured himself a glass and silently toasted them. - No More Hair Tonic - Draco finally gets what he wants. Ron/Draco - R, art and ficlet for
wellington.
Rec: Must admit to a kilt-kink too ;) - Through the Looking Glass - Percy's new office at WWW is equipped with a one-way mirror; he doesn't pay too much attention to it, until the day a special customer comes in to try something new. Percy/Oliver- NC-17, a fic for
rosivan.
Rec: Weakness for Percy. Especially (slightly) Pervy!Percy. - The Onyx Runes - A chronicle of the events leading to Bill Weasley’s abrupt change of career during the summer of 1995. Gen: Bill Weasley - G, a fic for
romanesca08.
Rec: OK, so it's GEN, no pairing at all, no sex at all unless you want to imagine it for yourself seeing as how Fleur makes a cameo at the very end, but I loved this. My second favourite fic so far, in fact. Colour me shocked.
Excerpt: Bill Weasley had set his mind on a career at the reasonable age of nine years old. - Faking It - Draco needs Ginny's help, and she's quite pleased to have the upper hand, but his simple favor turns into something much more complicated. Ginny/Draco- PG-13, a fic for
delayed_poet.
Rec: I wasn't expecting to like this one, as DM/GW isn't a pairing I find particularly interesting. I think it was the mutual insults that did it for me :)
Excerpt: "You're blushing like a little girl, Malfoy," she said under her breath.
"Stuff it, you rotten bitch," Draco responded, trying to smile as if they were having some sort of civil discussion. - Close to Perfect - Hermione Granger didn't normally make mistakes; she could be rational, she would use her smarts to make the right decision. Fred/Hermione- PG-13, a fic for
pettybureaucrat.
Rec: Aww. Also: best last line ever :) :) :) - Smart Girls - 7/8-ish Ron helps 6/7-ish Ginny with her reading. Gen: Ron and Ginny Weasley - G, art for
shiiki.
Rec: Awww...

Date: 2008-07-06 10:49 pm (UTC)Isn't it? I have yet to comment on it; I'm waiting till I can comment something other than OMGWTFBBQSQUEEE!!!11!!
I don't normally read het (apart from Shiv's Lumione stuff) but now I'm appreciating pairings such as Fred/Hermione, which I would never have put together, but actually kind of make sense...
There's another gorgeous Fred/Hermione I read a few weeks ago that is driving me crazy because I've lost the link to it, and it's just... wow. Totally canon-compliant, too, which blew my mind when I read it. Will link to it whenever I find it.

Yesss!!
Two more converts and I get a toaster-oven ;)

Date: 2008-07-10 10:07 pm (UTC)That being said, I have to agree that the fic about Bill is brilliant. Not the kind of thing that I normally read, but it blew me away. Thank you for reccing it.
Some time ago in this entry you posted about using Harry Potter to explain the song "Johnny be Fair." Well, I really enjoyed the story, and I'm glad you decided to share it with us here on the internet, but I also really enjoyed the song. Sadly, on Sunday night my hard drive upped and died while I slept and I lost, well, everything. Anyway, I know you're busy, but I was wondering if you could either reupload the song, send it to me in an email, or give me the name of the singer so I can try and hunt it down myself. Obviously I'd prefer the song, but I don't want to impose on you.
Thank you

Isn't it? I have to confess I clicked on it mostly in order to tell myself that I don't just read fics for the porn ;) So glad I did, though!

LOL! I'd forgotten that one :D :D

I can do better than that: I can provide the permanent link to it. Recently found a site where links don't expire after 7 days, which has made life ever so much easier.

Your comment is highly appreciated, BTW - if I don't log in to the site for 30 days, it gets zapped, and I've got a whole heck of a lot of songs/vids there that I do not want to have to reupload. Thanks!

Date: 2008-07-11 04:45 am (UTC)Feel free, the more the merrier, but I warn you that my LJ has been more or less dead for the last 6 months. I've been meaning to get back to it; actually that's one of my New Year resolutions, but since I'm a student I decided that, except for taxes, "new year" refers to school year.

You are awesome! Thank you so much. Hmmm, I'll have to check that site out. I need a place to stash things on the net.

I'm glad to have been of service? This reminds me of the time when I was canvassing and I stopped two College boys who were leaving their house. They were cool with it and we chatted for a bit, I got them to sign postcards, and then right as the interaction was finishing up one of them smacks his forehead and exclaims, "Socks!" Turns out they were going shoe shopping and they both happened to be wearing sandals. Anyway, I moved on to the next house, they went to get socks, and as they were leaving their house for the second time one of them yelled across the lawn thanking me for having stopped them and thus reminded them to get socks.
Inadvertently reminding people of things is great.
