I am... disturbed

So, I'm looking at my music sharing page, where I keep the sound files for Volunteers/Ember to Ember, and thinking of reorganizing. Suddenly I find I can't access my general music page; all I can do is see individual files. Huh. I'm sure it'll resolve itself; this kind of thing always does.

But here's the part that's left me blinking in puzzlement and some concern right now. While trying to figure out how to get to my page, I click on my name, and open a page I've never seen before. A page greeting people who come to my musical space. This is what I say to newcomers:


Welcome to my page! I want to share my stuff with you and hope you will find something useful here. Enjoy my collection and come back again and again, I will do my best to make it always interesting for you. Thank you for your time!


Friendly, cheerful, and vague, there is nothing objectionable about my intro page, except for one thing: I did not write it.

Putting on my pedant hat, I am not sharing "my stuff"; except for five songs recorded by my own choir, I am sharing other people's music or vids. I don't expect people to "enjoy my collection"; this isn't a collection, it's just a place where I've put music for Volunteers/Ember to Ember, as well as other random shit that I thought was interesting enough to upload and link to. I have no problem with people who return again and again, but also have no desire to encourage them to do so. And I will not do my best to "keep it interesting"; I'll just upload shit that strikes my fancy whenever I feel like it.

I mean... damn, people. I have enough trouble with over-babbling all on my own; I certainly don't need some random music sharing space to put words in my mouth.

Well, to be fair, I do think it's a little funny... but mostly annoying and it makes me wonder what else "I'm" saying out there, that I don't even know I'm saying. "Enjoy my collection" is innocuous enough; I just have a creepy notion that maybe my Photobucket folder chirps something like, "If you liked my pictures, maybe we can be special friends... you show me yours, and i'll show you mine!!1! hugz'n'kisses "

I someone else hasn't already suggested it, honey - I'd be checking for site theft! It may not be something done by the space, but by someone who has done an identity theft on your space. Of course, I could also just be alarmist. But I'd definitely contact the site and ask if a) it was them, and b) if not, can they please sort it, and c) if it was them, just don't. :D
